Understanding F&I

What's the F&I menu, and why should you care?

It's the document most buyers don't see until they're already at the desk.

F&I stands for Finance & Insurance. After you agree on a price, the F&I office presents a menu of optional protection products — extended warranties, GAP coverage, tire and wheel protection, paint protection, key replacement. Each has a price, and each has a monthly payment when rolled into your loan.

At most dealerships, this conversation happens fast. The customer is tired, the products are unfamiliar, and the numbers come at you verbally. That's the problem.

We do it differently. Our menu is published on this site. You can study it from your couch, compare every tier and every deductible, and arrive at the dealership already knowing what you want and what it costs. No pressure, no scramble — just clarity.

Vehicle Service Contracts

Three tiers, plainly explained.

Every vehicle we sell qualifies for one of three protection levels. Pick the floor of coverage you want — we'll show pricing on this site, before you sign.

Essential

Major Mechanical
  • Engine — internal lubricated parts, timing components, oil pump
  • Transmission — internal parts, torque converter, mounts
  • Drive axle — differentials, axle shafts, CV joints
  • Seals & gaskets on covered components
  • Coverage at any licensed repair facility nationwide
"Powertrain" coverage. Lists what's covered — not on the list, not covered.

Complete

Bumper-to-Bumper
  • Exclusionary coverage — protected unless specifically excluded
  • Everything in Essential & Preferred
  • Hi-tech — infotainment, nav, backup cameras, parking sensors
  • Driver assist sensors — lane keep, blind spot, ADAS
  • Hybrid/EV components on applicable vehicles
  • Lowest deductible, longest term available
As close to a new-car warranty as a used vehicle gets. The right call when you want the broadest coverage — especially on tech-heavy or newer vehicles where electronics and sensors are the expensive failures.
Protection Add-Ons

The other products on the menu, without the upsell.

Six optional protections that ride alongside the service contract. Pick what makes sense for your driving and your loan.

GAP Protection

If your vehicle is totaled or stolen, your insurance pays market value — not loan balance. GAP covers the difference; deductible reimbursement may be included per program terms.

Tire & Wheel

Road hazard protection. Tire repair or full replacement, bent or cracked wheels, TPMS sensors. Mounting and balancing included. No deductible.

Dent & Ding

Paintless dent repair on doors, fenders, quarter panels, hood, roof. Door dings, hail damage, shopping cart marks. No claim limit, no deductible.

Key Replacement

Lost, stolen, or damaged smart keys and fobs. Cutting, programming, and shipping included. Multiple claims allowed.

Window Tint

Ceramic tint on all side and rear windows. Blocks UV, rejects heat, reduces cabin temperature. Warranty against bubbling or fading per manufacturer terms.

Paint Protection Film

Self-healing clear film on front bumper, hood leading edge, fenders, mirrors. Surface marks recover with heat per film specifications. Warranty per manufacturer terms.

Common Questions

What buyers actually ask.

Powertrain coverage lists what is covered — engine, transmission, drive axle. If a part isn't on the list, it's not covered. Exclusionary coverage works the opposite way: everything is covered except what's listed as excluded. Exclusionary is broader, more expensive, and closest to a new-car bumper-to-bumper warranty.
If your vehicle is totaled or stolen, your insurance pays current market value — which is often less than your remaining loan balance, especially in the first year or two. This gap is normal: it happens whenever taxes and fees are financed, you put little money down, you choose a longer loan term, or you roll negative equity from a trade-in. GAP covers the difference between the insurance payout and what you owe. Deductible reimbursement may be included per program terms.
Yes. All of our F&I products are pro-rata refundable. If you pay off the loan early, sell the vehicle, or simply change your mind, you receive a refund of the unused portion of the premium.
No. Tire & wheel covers road hazard damage — potholes, nails, debris cuts — that requires repair or replacement. Cosmetic curb rash, normal wear, and off-road damage are excluded. The plan does cover bent or cracked wheels caused by road hazards, including TPMS sensor replacement and rebalancing.
In most cases, yes — but the math changes. The best pricing is at the time of finance, when the product can be rolled into your loan and the cost spreads across the term. After delivery, prices typically increase, certain products may require a waiting period or vehicle inspection, and since the loan is already finalized, you'd generally be paying out of pocket rather than financing it. If you're on the fence about a product, ask us to walk through the math at the desk. Pricing may be different after delivery.
No. F&I products are optional, full stop. Federal law prohibits a lender from requiring them as a condition of financing, and California reinforces that. You can sign for everything, decline everything, or mix and match. Our menu records a formal decline on anything you pass on so there's a paper trail.
More than sixty. Because we're family-owned, we don't shotgun-blast your application to every lender on the list — we treat your credit profile with care. Our finance team reviews your situation (credit, vehicle, residence, down payment, history) and selects the one to three lenders we believe give you the strongest shot at the best terms. The lenders we work with most often include local credit unions like Patelco, SAFE, Sacramento Credit Union, Redwood, Sierra Central, First US Community, YOLO Federal, and NASA Federal, along with national lenders like Capital One Auto and Lentegrity — but the full list runs much deeper.
We're a family-owned independent dealership, and we genuinely believe these products serve our clients best when they're chosen, not sold. So we operate at small margins on F&I and publish the menu publicly — if a coverage tier or add-on makes sense for you, it should be a clear yes. If it doesn't, a formal decline is right there on the menu. No upsell pressure, no hidden markup, no surprise at the desk.
